We’re excited to announce that Third Equation Ltd has been selected as one of the Top 60 startups worldwide to take part in the prestigious Free Electrons 2025 Online Pitch Event, held from March 10–14.
This marks a major milestone for our team, and a significant opportunity to showcase how our technologies can help drive the transition to smarter, more resilient, and flexible energy systems—on a global stage.
About Free Electrons
Free Electrons is the world’s leading open innovation program for energy startups. It brings together the brightest early-stage companies and the largest global utilities to solve the biggest challenges in the energy sector. With an established track record of success—over $132 million in deals, pilots, and investments since its inception—the program accelerates real-world collaboration between innovators and operators.
From energy storage and grid optimisation to renewable integration and electrification of transport, Free Electrons focuses on the technologies shaping the energy systems of tomorrow. For a startup like Third Equation, being selected means access to a network of world-class partners, potential pilot opportunities, and exposure to the cutting-edge of utility innovation.
What This Means for Third Equation
During the online pitch event, we presented our vision to a panel of leading utility partners from around the world. We highlighted how Third Equation’s advanced power electronics and grid-enhancing solutions can unlock capacity, integrate renewables faster, and deliver meaningful benefits to both networks and consumers.
The pitch event is just the beginning. From here, 30 of the most promising startups will be invited to the Bootcamp in Sydney—an intensive, in-person phase where collaboration deepens and planning for pilot projects begins. Later stages include the Master Module in Hong Kong and the Finale in Ireland, where successful startups move from innovation to implementation.
This journey offers us a powerful platform to refine our technology, form meaningful partnerships, and ultimately, accelerate our impact.
Aligning with Global Energy Priorities
At Third Equation, we’re developing solutions that directly address critical grid challenges—voltage stability, distributed generation, EV integration, and infrastructure efficiency. These are not only central themes within Free Electrons, but also core concerns for utilities worldwide as the energy transition accelerates.
Our selection into the program validates the global relevance of our work. It also provides an opportunity to tailor our solutions to the real-world needs of industry leaders, and to work alongside them to test, iterate, and scale.
Looking Ahead
Participating in Free Electrons 2025 is more than an accolade—it’s a chance to help shape the next generation of energy systems. We’re grateful for the opportunity and excited to begin this journey with some of the world’s most forward-thinking utilities and innovators.
As we move through the program, we’ll be sharing updates and insights along the way. For now, we’d like to thank the Free Electrons team and our fellow cohort members—and invite you to follow along as we help power the energy systems of the future.
